Introduction
Welcome to Divergent Scripts, my name is Jason Walker and I provide talking therapy for adults (18+) in-person in Hull and online. I am a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor with a previous long-term career in engineering.
My own struggles with mental health led me to train as a therapist and discovering my neurodivergence in later life. I aim to use my lived experience in addition to my psychotherapy training to support clients with their mental health.
Please see below about working with me and how to get in touch.
You may be considering therapy if you are:
feeling overwhelmed, anxious or exhausted
going through a significant change in your life
struggling with confidence or self-worth
simply feeling stuck, without knowing exactly why
You don't need everything figured out to start therapy
Working With Me
Areas of Interest
I have a particular interest in working with late-diagnosed neurodivergent adults (autism/ADHD/AuDHD). Having discovered my neurodivergent identity later in life, my lived experience helps me relate to clients who may be looking back at earlier experiences and relationships through a different lens.
You don't have to be neurodivergent to work with me. I work with a broad range of client presentations and we can review your therapy needs during an initial consultation.
Before becoming a therapist I had a long-term career in aerospace engineering. I've experienced demanding workplaces, increased responsibility and pressure that can come with a professional career. I understand that work can be much more than simply “a job” - It can be tied up with identity, confidence, relationships, expectations and our sense of who we are.
My Approach
I don't believe that therapy is about fixing people. I'm interested in helping people understand themselves more fully, recognise patterns that may no longer serve them, and explore what they might want to do differently.
My core theory model is Transactional Analysis (TA) which provides ways of exploring how we relate to ourselves and other people, how patterns develop, and how experiences from our past can influence the ways we respond in the present. I'm an integrative therapist, which means I draw on different therapeutic perspectives rather than relying on one approach.
We will work collaboratively to understand what you're experiencing and we can find an approach which works for you.
Services
Individual Therapy
Whether you're struggling with anxiety, stress, relationships, work, life changes, or simply feeling that something isn't quite right, therapy can offer a space to talk openly about what's going on, without having to put on a professional face or worry about getting the “right” answer.
I offer 1-1 therapy which costs £75 for a 50-minute session. I recommend the initial sessions at a frequency of 1-2 weeks to establish the working relationship, we can then review the frequency to find the right balance for you.
Key Policies
-
Clients must provide a minimum notice of 48 hours in advance of a therapy session when making a cancellation or reschedule request:
Requests made with less than 48 hours’ notice will be subject to full fee payment.
Requests made with more than 48 hours in advance of your appointment will not be subject to fee payment.
-
If you do not attend a therapy session and I have not had any contact from you, the session will be subject to full fee payment.
Finding the right therapist for you matters
If you’re not sure if therapy is for you or if you would like to find out more about working with me, a consultation is an ideal place to start. This is a free 30-minute informal chat for us to discuss what working together might look like.
I carry out my consultations online or over the phone so you can attend from the comfort of your own home. We can review your therapy goals/needs and my services to see if we would be a good fit for working together.
